Travel Information

Otaniemi is located in Espoo, approximately 10 kilometers from central Helsinki. 

The campus is well-connected, with direct metro and bus routes, as well as convenient public transport options to various areas of Espoo and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The metro ride from Helsinki’s Kamppi station to Aalto University station takes around 10 minutes.

The journey from Kamppi to Aalto University in Otaniemi takes 11 minutes.

There are two exits from the Aalto University metro station, Otaniementie and Tietotie. Via Otaniementie, you can access the Main Building Dipoli (welcome reception and Gala dinner venue) and the Undergraduate Centre (main venue).

The Metro line’s end station in the west is Tapiola or Matinkylä (Espoo), and in the east Vuosaari or Mellunmäki (Helsinki). The Metro runs every 2.5 minutes at Aalto University station during the rush hour, and every 4–5 minutes at other times.

Otaniemi is easily accessible by bus and light rail line 15. The light rail runs every 6 minutes on weekdays, with three stops in Otaniemi: Otaranta, Aalto University metro station, and Maari.

Otaniemi is approximately 22 km away from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.

Taxi fare is around 40 euros (travel time about 30 minutes).

Public transport from the airport takes about an hour: either the train or bus the Helsinki Central Railway station and metro to Aalto University, the train to Huopalahti and change to light rail line 15.

Parking is available near most Otaniemi campus’ buildings and along some of the streets. The parking areas and construction sites on the campus are marked in the campus map. Most parking areas require a university permit or other permit, some a parking disc or parking fee. All parking fees will be managed through EasyPark and Parkman.
